Old Man Mountain Monte Arido 4/16/04 Did both as a combo. Hiked up via Murietta Canyon. Used the trail on the North side of Old Man Mountain. The route up the SW side looked rather brushy and no trail was evident. The route probably starts just past the water tank which you'll see on the South side of the road. On the way back I took the Murietta Canyon road all the way instead of jumping off on the Murietta trail. This was a little longer, but because it was getting dark I opted for the road instead of the jungle. Should go back and hike up the Matilija trail. Possible falls. Also should hike up to Divide Peak or Noon Peak (or both). Drove down to Ventura via 126 and then up 33 to Ojai. It's probably faster (from the East) to take the road that goes between Santa Paula and Ojai. It may have a lot of curves but it's probably 15 miles shorter. The Trains in Fillmore are old movie trains that were bought from the movie industry. They are now used for train rides. Train scenes in Seabiscut were filmed there.
