Here's an update on road and peak conditions (as of 3/29/04). The road is now open beyond the kilns. It's clear to Thorndike campground. Beyond that you won't get too far due to snow and ice. I tried but gave up and decided it was easier to just back down to Thorndike and then hike up from there. It did not appear that any vehicles have been able to get all the way to Mahogany Flat yet. Tracks went as far as the bend about a quarter mile from the Flat. At least 75% of the trail is clear of snow to the peak but you can stay on snow at least 50% of the time if you want to.
