Emerson SE Face Class 3-4 On the bypass at the bottom the step around is trivial. You tried to find the ledge too low. You need to climb up at least 2 full pitches before crossing the gully to the ledge. You wore trail runners. Only switched to climbing shoes for the short smooth face climb just past where you crossed into and out of the gully. Top of chimney/gulley was dry and clean. No problem with trail runners. Brought ice axes but didn't use. Snow patch was an issue but you were able to squeeze around the right side - at one point going over a very smooth slab with some sand on it. Considered going straight up a corner at that point but am not sure if that would work. Left side of snow patch also looked possible. Traverse over to skyline arete - you crossed too low - is easier up as high as you can go. Descended first chute. The drop further down in the chute was downclimbed on the left side.
