Start time: 7:43am. We parked along the Saline Valley part way between Keynot Canyon and McElvoy Canyon.
USGS has a cache on the ridge at 7742 feet. 2:08pm.
4:10pm. First look into the upper end of McElvoy Canyon.
In McElvoy Canyon at last. 5:35pm. Hmmmm. I don't think we're going to get out tonight.
Approaching Mayan ruins ... errr ... mining ruins
Remains of a cabin further down canyon from the mill site. This one is nearly completely overtaken by heavy vegetation. 7:57am.
Remains of additional shelters still further down canyon. 8:20am.
At the first rappel. 9:40am. A wire and wood ladder is still affixed to a large block here.
How about this anchor? It certainly wasn't my first choice but after surveying the options this one didn't seem that bad and was redundant (2 wires).
Rap #2. This was just a short 40 footer and could likely be downclimbed if one lowered themselves down using the vines.
We didn't notice this anchor until we had set up a new one around a tree/bush
Parking area below the mouth of McElvoy Canyon. 4:46pm.
Now we have to hike back to the car which is closer to Keynot Canyon
And finally our 2 day adventure comes to an end. 5:33pm. 2 days. 21 hours 31 mins moving time.
