Start time: 4:15am (4:25am if counting the fact that I had to hike back to the car to get something I forgot)
Looking up at the scree slope above 9000 feet. 7:00am.
Look closely and you'll see an interesting effect with lines of shadow in the sky coming off the center peak
A vehicle coming up the Millner Creek road. 7:38am.
The dreaded scree slope above the 11,000 foot saddle
Looking down at the northern (right) and southern (left) branches of the West ridge
11:49am and summit hut in sight (but still a long way off)
Approaching the class 3 section of the ridge around 13,000 feet
Three bighorn sheep. I spotted two more about an hour later.
Looking back at the class 3 section of the ridge
Before making the final push to the summit I got stopped for a minute or two above a gap on the ridge. Turns out this problem can be bypassed on the north side but I opted to downclimb thru a small class 3/4 chimney.
Doesn't look like much in the photo but I climbed down the minor chimney in the middle
Just a little further ... and loose till the end
All the registers are full. Someone needs to bring a new one up.
9000 foot saddle. 5:23pm. Only about 10 minutes of light left.
Scree slope in the dark - much much worse than I expected
