This is the easy ramp (class 2) at the start of the route
Looking down at the Whitney Trail below Thor Peak
Higher up another ramp goes up toward the west before turning south
Looking down Candlelight's NE ridge. The slabs are in the foreground.
Getting down to the notch isn't entirely trivial but no more than class 3 by the easiest route
A bit more class 3 climbing on the other side of the notch
Foreground: Thor. Background: Russell, Carillon, The Cleaver, Gamblers Special
This red notch can be used to drop down onto the scree slope down toward Bighorn Park (class 3?)
The traverse from Irvine to Mallory has an interesting fin and some substantial gendarmes
I came up through a short chimney however this was not the only possibility
Looking into the NW chute from LeConte's NW ridge. The waterfall pitch is just below the bottom of the photo.
Waterfall pitch. Always looks so easy in photos. It's a little harder in reality.
Just above the waterfall pitch. The long cheater sling is gone ... just a rappel sling here now.
Looking up at the large block near LeConte's summit
Around this corner is the short class 4 section Secor describes on the NW ridge
Looking down at the waterfall pitch ... the photo reveals nothing
There was a short bit of class 4 up through here. It climbed up over the large boulders on the right.
A few more significant problems along the way before reaching Lone Pine Peak's plateau
Summit register on Lone Pine Peak. I couldn't find it the last few times but it's there now. 6:30pm.
