Leaving Dante's View lower parking lot. Start time 5:27am.
Courtney, Dionne, & Matthew. I think is where I left my gloves (found them later on another trip).
First rappel. 6:57am. Someone must have sacrified an entire 60m rope. This was the first of many rope anchors.
Questionable anchor. The white side could pop off. The purple side failed instantly as soon as I pulled on it. I cleared debris from the crack and wedged in a somewhat more stable chockstone. I backed up this anchor with a body belay for the rest of the party.
Matthew attempts to find a way over the mother of all chockstones
We're pretty sure Brennen traversed on the right side of the canyon here
Constructing an anchor from scratch. Existing anchor was from a small bush on the left side of the canyon. We rounded up some nice rocks to build a typical rock cairn anchor (recylcing the older webbing from the previous anchor).
Courtney's anchor. Courtney has more faith in some anchors than the rest of us.
Courtney in front of a small cave under the 240 foot rappel
Rope stuck!!! It was stuck good (probably rapped around a small rock horn). Matthew and I played around with it for 10 or 15 minutes. With persistent effort we finally got it to pull.
Another weak anchor. This one is a loop of rope around a flake backed up by rocks. If the flake breaks the anchor will probably fail. I did another body belay backup on this one. There really wasn't much else here to use.
Sitting behind the anchor I provided a body belay backup
We arrived down at our recovery vehicle around 5:30pm. Total time was between 12 and 12.5 hours.
