On the way to Gayley Camp. Mount Sill looms in the background.
Bergschrund at the base of the V Notch. At first we thought we might have a problem here.
Other climbers contouring around on the west end of the Palisade Glacier
Huge hunk of snow/ice at the bergsrcrund that wants to break off
Start of pitch 1. This was on the far right side of the bergschrund. One rock move (with crampons on ) then a nice ramp.
Miguel on a hanging belay. From this point it was about a pitch and half of continuous water ice (70m rope).
The antlers are still here. Saw these last year too.
Looking at the Palisades from just below Mount Sill. The U Notch is visible in the top center of the photo. Polemonium is the little point just left of the U Notch. North Palisade is the high point in the photo.
Polemonium (left), U Notch, North Palisade (center), and Starlight
Miguel on the summit of Mount Sill. Two other climbers had just finished the Swiss Arete.
All pads full. Someone needs to bring up a new register.
Miguel negotiates the ledge on the NW side of Sill
Back on the Palisade Glacier we found both postholing and slippery conditions. Large suncups made this very tedious and unpleasant.
We passed by a couple small crevasses on the way back to Gayley Camp
At 10:45pm we finally make it back to the trailhead. This was one exhausting day.
