An icy wonderland ... and treacherously slippery
Lower Boy Scout Lake (mostly frozen - ice still thin)
Boilerplate ice. Insanely slippery. Had to work my way around to the left until I found a safe spot to cross further up.
Slip on this and you'll go supersonic in 2 seconds
First use of my EV2 tent that I bought earlier this year with my REI discount
Excellent -- a clear route up to the Notch. An avoidable strip of snow is hidden in this photo.
Iceberg Lake. The lake was making frequent loud "popping" sounds as the ice cracked due to wind.
I went up the rocky rib in the middle (class 3) to avoid snow
Easy ramp up to the upper chute. This can be a tricky start when the snow isn't here.
This way looks better (the first chute above the Notch)
I tried to go up the right side of the chute from the start but got into a class 4/5 spot that seemed beyond what I could safely do in my winter boots. Dropped back down and took the easier way up the left first before heading to the right side.
Through a chimney at the top and onto the summit
