Conditions further deteriorating. Strong wind, snow accumulating, high wind chill, low visibility.
I hunkered down behind a rock at UBSL for nearly an hour in an attempt to get out of the biting wind and blowing snow. During this time I watched the snow continue to accumulate quickly. I had to resort to jogging in place to maintain body temperature.
With no sign the blizzard conditions were passing I reluctantly aborted a summit attempt.
Blue sky? Oh don't tease me! I fretted for over 30 minutes over whether to reverse course and head back up.
In the blizzard the top of my water bottle froze over.
Dan befriended a grouse who stayed with us for quite some distance up the North Fork
We met Kurt Wedberg and his group as they headed down from an aborted summit attempt due to weather and avalanche risk.
Weather kept changing from clear sky to near white-out conditions with falling snow
Regroup at the lower end of the upper Thor plateau
Ben watches as the remaining group glissades down to LBSL
