Water from the tap looked clean but I filtered it to be sure
Saw a few deer. This one seemed surpisingly tame.
Saddle between Big Pine & West Big Pine. 10:25am.
Mission Pine trail. Just what I needed. More snow.
Trail sign points right. The summit is to the left.
Summit of West Big Pine. First peak of the day. 11:09am.
Mars Bonfire has been here 13 times. Truly amazing.
Matthew Holliman also dayhiked the Big 4 (successfully)
Snow is getting softer. My socks keep getting wetter.
My non-waterproof shoes and socks are thoroughly soaked. Wonderful.
Just as I feared. Warmer temp in the afternoon has softened the snow. Hiking through the snow was now very unpleasant. For the longest hike of my life I definitely didn't need this additional challenge.
A nice camping area near the Alamar Trail junction. 1:28pm.
Probably the same deer I saw earlier in the day. I'm now pretty wet from the rain.
