La Malinche as seen from the drive to the trailhead
Some of the trail through the forest is surprisingly steep -- good exercise
Emerging from the forest the summit comes into view
To our right is an interesting looking outcropping on the ridge
There were occaisional clumps of yellow daisies or sunflowers
There are various use trails. Some are pretty sandy.
The upper portion of the volcano consists of a lot of broken blocks
We can see Popo (left) and Izta (right) in the distance
This dog was waiting for us on the summit. Apparently he lives there.

A small donation to the summit keeper is recommended
14,574 feet. Just a tad higher than Mount Whitney.
Mike puts himself into an exposed position to photograph a small lizard
Many peaks in Mexico have religious items on or near the summit.
Apparently the locals enjoy the practice of "trundelling". I'm glad we weren't down there.
Here's an attractive shot of Mike's foot. You should have seen his socks!
