Alan, Richard, and Mike. We missed the start of the trail and climbed up a slippery slope to reach the nearest switchback.
Rick G and Eric K. We're now heading up the Acorn trail.
At the Acorn Trail / PCT junction we stop to regroup
Rick G and Alan K just before the steepest part of the backbone
Rick G and Alan K climbing up the trickier section of the backbone. This spot can be extremely dangerous especially on descent if conditions are icy. If you slip you'll go sailing down the slope. Fortunately conditions were good.
Richard finishes off the steep section of the backbone
Summit of Pine Mountain with Mount Baldy in the background
Dawson Peak (left) and Mount Baldy (right). Notice that you have to drop down a couple of times before getting to Baldy.
The group now drops down from Pine Mountain heading for Dawson.
Iron Mountain (center). Rick Graham was there just the week before and did the Baldy-Iron traverse.
Closer shot of Iron Mountain (as seen from near Pine Mountain)
It's all uphill from here. For a time I follow these bighorn sheep tracks.
As I stop and eat a few snacks I notice that the coulds are looking a bit ominous.
Summit in sight. Wind has blown most of the snow off the summit.
Looking back at Pine Mountain (left) and Dawson Peak (right)
Looking NW toward Mount Baden-Powell (center rear).
Mount Baden-Powell (center rear). It looked like the snow there was melting off quickly.
Got a nice starburst shot on my way down from Mount Baldy
Summit cairn and register on Wright Mountain. Someone else (Larry Cohen) was there just hours earlier.
Opting to take a shortcut I was forced down into this gully
The gully had running water and even a mini waterfall
