Bob and Jeff on the JMT. Goddard is just coming into view.
By Wanda Lake we fill up, depart the JMT, and head for Mount Goddard.
We are joined briefly by Matthew before he heads off toward Mount McGee.
This is the ridge that Secor mentions to take NE from Goddard. It's a little trickier than it looks. The ridge itself is mostly class 3. The class 2 route lies behind this ridge and catches up with the ridge about halfway up.
An icy stream. Before the sun came up it was quite cold indeed.
Jeff and Bob survey the route. Hmmmm. This doesn't look class 2.
Bob and Jeff squeeze past the snow up to solid rock
Here's a shot of the groove leading up to Goddard's east ridge.

At this point I veered off the ridge down into the class 2 route thinking it might be quicker. Not a good idea. It was loose taylus and scree.
We meet some other hikers in the basin NE of Goddard.

A backpacker on the John Muir Trail in the Evolution Basin
Mount Darwin and one of the lakes in Darwin Canyon
Approaching Lamarck Col from Darwin Canyon. The col really isn't very obvious from this side.
