Approaching Mount Tom from the dirt road south of Rovana.
Our journey would begin at the bottom of the North Ridge in the right of the photo.
This snow was terrible - major postholing. I sank into one hole that was almost over my head.
4:56am. Predawn we leave camp and start heading further up the ridge.
We now get a better view up the ridge -- summit still not visible
Upper end of Pine Creek Canyon and the Pine Creek Tungsten Mine
Looking down one of the chutes on the NW side of the ridge. It's steeper than it looks in the photo.
We camped in the snow free area at around 9000 feet.
Courtney punches through the crust and yells in frustration. We were constantly stuck in the snow like this.
