In this photo (taken from near the start of the ski hut trail) you can just make out the light green Sierra Club Ski Hut (a little up and to the right of center). It's more obvious in the full size image.
Typical trail condition. Did lots more postholing on the way back down.
Looking up into the Baldy bowl. Some recent slide evidence is visible in the foreground.
I headed straight up toward the center of the photo
Here you can get an idea of the slope inside the bowl
Two earlier climbers were attempting to glisade down (a bit slowly due to the soft conditions)
Approaching the top of the chute (view to climber's left)
Mount Baden-Powell (center rear) as seen from Mount Baldy
Pine Mountain (left) and Dawson Peak (right) as seen from Mount Baldy
San Gorgonio (center rear) as seen from Mount Baldy
Looking down from the rocks at the top of the bowl (on the ridge)
Coming back down behind the bowl close to where the trail is.
Crossing the bowl headed back to the ski hut. This location was hit by an avalanche just 6 or 7 minutes after I crossed it.
This slide occurred just minutes after I passed. It was triggered by some skiers/snowboarders. I'm not sure if there was enough snow for it to be life threatening but it did get my attention.
Bottom portion of an avalanche that crossed my tracks where I had been not more than 10 minutes earlier.
A second slide was triggered right next to the first one making it look like a single larger slide.
Looking up at the earlier slides I had gone around on the way up.
