Panorama of the fire above San Antonio Heights (10/24/2003).
This is where you start your hike if you're going to the Baldy Notch or the Ski Hut trail.
There's a place to sign in (if there's paper) just past the start of the trail.
Green Ski Hut is visible in center of photo with Mount Baldy to the upper left.
This photo shows the area directly above the ski hut. The green outhouse can be seen at the center bottom of this photo (if viewed full size).
One of the fires of October 2003. At this point I stopped and began to wonder if it was a good idea to be up here with an approaching fire. The wind was also blowing fiercly.
This photo shows the Mount Baldy trail as it heads up the ridge.
Had the summit all to myself. The wind and fires scared everyone else away.
Pine Mountain (left) and Dawson Peak (right) as seen from Mount Baldy
Mount Baldy as seen from Mount Harwood. Looks so innocent, but a little over a month later in January of 2004 it would claim the lives of two experienced hikers (due to slippery ice).
A steep area along the Devil's Backbone. This would not be a good place to slip under any season.
More of the Devil's Backbone. Don't wander off the trail!
Another steep and loose spot below the trail on the Devil's Backbone.
Mount Harwood as seen from the area of the Devil's Backbone.
Top of one of the lifts that comes up from the Baldy Notch.
The very steep and loose West face of Telegraph Peak has an animal trail across it.
One of several Bighorn Sheep (seen just below the summit of Telegraph Peak). One of the fires of October 2003 can be seen in the background.
A lone Bighorn Sheep (probably looking for the group I encountered a half hour earlier).
Yet another lone Bighorn Sheep. I tried to track this one to get some better photos, but my camera battery went dead at the worst time. In the time it took me to swap out the battery I lost him.
Looking down into Icehouse Canyon from the South end of Telegraph Peak.
An unusal pine tree as seen next to the trail on the way back to Thunder Mountain.
Hey that looks like a good place to get a drink of water. Or maybe not!
Panarama taken from Telegraph Peak showing one of the fires of October 2003 close to Cajon Pass (the Grand Prix fire?).
Topo map showing my GPS track. I followed the ski hut trail to the summit and then picked up 3 more peaks for the day. I descended via the dirt road from the Baldy Notch.
Map showing the various routes to Mount Baldy including the ski hut trail.
Cropped version of previous photo. My first up close and personal encounter with Bighorn Sheep.
